Sacrifice–oh joy!

Sacrifice–oh joy!

I used to think one should be an overseas missionary (the ultimate sacrifice I thought) to really please God.  Motherhood changed my mind!

As I move further on my journey, I’m learning that God’s love for me will NOT change based on my performance or sacrifices.  He loves me no matter what!  That definitely lightens my load!

I am also realizing it’s the little things that are harder to sacrifice than the big things.  I don’t think one huge sacrifice like living in the bush somewhere is any more or less pleasing to God than a life daily lived to serve others right here in my home and my home town.  I don’t have to go far to serve.  The opportunities are endless.

I read in Phillipians this passage:

Do all things without grumbling or disputing; so that you will prove yourselves to be blameless and innocent, children of God above reproach in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you appear as lights {stars} in the world, holding fast the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I will have reason to glory because I did not run in vain nor toil in vain.  But even if I am being poured out as a drink offering upon the sacrifice and service of your faith, I rejoice and share my joy with you all. (Phil. 2: 14-17)

Just getting through a day without grumbling is definitely a sacrifice for me.  And that part about toiling in vain…that’s definitely ringing a bell as I attack my mountain of laundry.  (Can I get an “Amen?”)

Living a life “being poured out as a drink offering” is no easy thing and I think it looks different for everyone.  Everyone has mundane tasks that no one notices, no one appreciates, no one gives us a gold star for…except the One that truly sacrificed it all for us.  For Him, we can consider it a joy.  It’s not easy…but it can be done!

So whatever your sacrifice is…don’t worry: it’s not done in vain! Rejoice!

Here's one of my little {HUGE} sacrifices for today!

What’s yours?
