Okay…so honestly, I didn’t think I could make my own pizza sauce. I suppose I thought there was some magic ingredient or something. However, when I ran out a few weeks ago, and realized I had dozens of jars of tomatoes in my pantry that I painstakingly grew and canned…I did a little research…(yay internet)…and came up with this…
- 28 oz can of whole tomatoes, drained (drain them WELL)
- 1 T olive oil
- 1 t. red wine vinegar
- 2 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1 t. salt
- 1 t. oregano
- 1 t. basil
- 1/4 t. ground black pepper
Drain your tomatoes very, very, very, very well…I even patted mine down with a towel to get more moisture off. Add all ingredients to a food processor or blender…purree…and DONE! I had no idea it was this EASY! As a fair warning, it is not quite as thick or as deep red as traditional pizza sauce….if that’s important to you and yours, I think some tomato paste added would help. However, we didn’t mind! This makes enough for two pizza’s, or give you some extra for dipping sauce. I froze my extra for an easy pizza next time!
We put our new pizza sauce on our homemade whole wheat crust…topped with all of our favorite things!
My kids NEVER complain about this dinner! Winning!
