Homemade Granola Recipe

Homemade Granola Recipe

Welcome to yet another Recipe Wednesday!  Now I realize there’s about a million recipes for granola out there.  I guess that makes this a million and one!  😉

This version of granola, with  the flax seeds and walnuts, has tons of omega 3 fatty acids(great for brain-function) and lots of fiber (great for digestion).  It’s brain food that will keep you feeling full for hours!

There’s not a lot of sweetener (which I think is a good thing), and it was still a hit with my little guys and gals, especially when we added it to our homemade yogurt!  I hope it can be a hit for you too!

  • 6 cups old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 3/4 cup flax seeds
  • 1 cup flaked (unsweetened) coconut
  • 1 cup coarsely chopped walnuts
  • 3 T coconut oil
  • 3T grapeseed oil
  • 3T water
  • 3T agave syrup or honey
  • 1 T homemade vanilla extract

Preheat oven to 275 degrees (F).  Mix all the dry ingredients in a large bowl.  Melt coconut oil in the microwave.  Add the grapeseed oil, water, syrup/honey, and vanilla to melted coconut oil and stir  together.  Pour oil mixture in the bowl and stir to thoroughly coat all the dry ingredients.  Spread out the raw granola on two large jelly roll pans or cookie sheets and bake.  Stir  every 5-7 minutes and bake 15-20 minutes total or until granola is golden brown.  It will crisp up as it cools off.  Once cool store in an air tight container.

  1. I have a similar granola recipe. I eat it every morning for breakfast, add some berries and milk and warm it up for a minute. Or sometimes I add yogurt. :) (mine also has cinnamon and ground cloves). Sounds delish!

  2. I tried a version recently which added a few TB of peanut butter and some chocolate chips:) A little less healthy, but of so delish:) This is a great recipie…I really need to get with it and try coconut oil:)!
