A Legacy of Love…My Great-Grandmother

A Legacy of Love…My Great-Grandmother

My great-grandmother passed away early this week at the age of 92.  While I am saddened to the core that I won’t get to talk to her, or listen to her funny stories anymore…I am mostly honored to have been a part of her life.  An amazing, impressive life, full of love and family.

She had three children, 12 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren.  What an impressive legacy for one woman to leave behind!   She left behind a beautiful family, full of life and love.  That is a legacy.  It is a legacy that transcends death. It is a legacy of love.  Because of this she will be remembered always.

I can only hope to have a life so full of love!  To leave a legacy such as she.

Before she passed, she gave me a beautiful set of brushes and a mirror that I had always admired in her home as a little girl.  Taped to the back, on a little piece of white paper, in her beautiful handwriting, she wrote…

“The mirror, comb, and brush on this dresser was given to me from Ariel (her husband) for Christmas in 1937.  We were married in 1939, Sept. 1”

I now keep these on my dresser, and am, and always will be reminded of her when I see them.  Reminded of the love with which they were given to her from her husband to be so long ago…and how that love grew…creating a family.  A family that is now her legacy.  A beautiful, perfect legacy.

Thank you (great) Grandma, for all you have given us!

  2. I remember that set too! I’m so happy you have them. They were always in your grandma’s room at her house. I wrote a blog post for Grandma too – let me know if you ever want to be invited to my blog.

I love how you talked about Legacy. To me it matters much more than fame or fortune. It’s all about family. Thanks!

  3. My family thinks that this is so special that it needs to be displayed at the funeral. I have printed a copy and we’ll share it everybody there if that’s okay. Love, Grandma
