Black Bean BROWNIES

Black Bean BROWNIES

So…the other day I stumbled upon a recipe for black bean brownies.  I was skeptical, to say the least…but I tried them anyway.  Anything that could make my chocolate addiction seem a little bit healthier is worth a shot.

They were amazing!  If I hadn’t known any better, I never could have guessed that black beans were my “secret ingredient.”  My husband, kids and mother-in-law had no idea at all!

Black Bean Brownies

  • 1 can unsalted black beans ( I used 2 cups, because I started with dried beans.  I think using a few extra beans prevents the mixture from becoming too thin.)
  • 1/8 tsp. salt
  • 1/3 c. butter/margarine
  • 1/4 c. cocoa
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1/2 c. semi-sweet chocolate chips

Blend all ingredients, except chocolate chips, in blender until smooth.  Add chocolate chips and blend again.  Pour into a well-greased 8×8 pan and bake for 20-25 at 350 degrees.

They had a dense, fudge-like texture, and were a huge hit in our house!  We’ll definitely be trying this again!

I hope your family enjoys them as much as we did!

  1. I have heard of these before and have always wanted to try them! Maybe they will be our treat for the super bowl this weekend =D

  2. Do you drain and/or rinse the can of black beans, or just add it with the packing liquid? I would imagine that would make them rather runny, but wanted to check before I try the recipe out.
